THE KINABUTI SISTERS: CHEERS TO 12 YEARS OF INSPIRED AND INSPIRING SERVICE IN NIGERIA

My name is Alessandra Anna and I am a Dare2Dreamer. It is my pleasure
today to celebrate the 12Th Anniversary of the Kinabuti sisters living
in Nigeria. I have carefully gone through the programs of the Kinabuti
social enterprise in Nigeria and I have myself being a part of their
training program and I must say I am impressed by the selfless efforts
expressed by this duo.

There is no doubt that they have become partners in their joint effort
to successfully implement laudable services to develop youth and women
entrepreneurship in Nigeria in particular, and Africa in general. The
mythical importance of these personalities need to be exposed for what
they are worth. They have helped to produce young qualified Nigerians
who have been trained in various skills, helping them to turn their
craft into money, while becoming good and intelligent citizens who
take an interest in developing their communities.

According to Caterina “We had a dream and the determination to
succeed, and in 2010, a brand called Kinabuti was established. We
thought to use fashion as a vehicle to make a difference and inspire
other people. Simultaneously a non-profit enterprise called Kinabuti
Fashion Initiative (KFI) was created whose primary objective is giving
women and youths the opportunity to learn skills and get professional
experience by teaching them silk screening, sewing cutting patterns,
cinematography, batik and tie dye. Fashion is seen as a vehicle for
development and empowerment in Nigeria.”

In their vision of developing youth entrepreneurship, they created
Dare2Dream a youth empowerment platform aimed at empowering young
Nigerians to unleash their creative and entrepreneurial potentials
while opening doors to build their talents. According to Francesca,
one of the Co-Founders, “Dare2Dream is the program closer to my heart
because it allows us to work with young and talented people and
develop them in MSMEs (Micro, small, medium enterprises)”

The Kinabuti sister continues saying, “Coming to Nigeria has been the
Best thing, we have now become “Italo-Nigerian”. We love the attitude
of Nigerians towards life, Nigeria has inspired us to realize our
dreams and trust God and that all things are possible. Nigeria has
become our second home, we eat indigenous food like Moi-Moi and fried
bean, and sometimes, we take a ride on Okada or Keke-Napep. We thank
you Nigeria for 12 awesome years”.

I say, we thank you Kinabuti sisters for the crucial role played in
developing entrepreneurship amongst our youth and women. Cheers to
another 12 years in Nigeria.
